Project: Free Trade Agreements and IT-based business
Perform in-depth research on the impact of Free Trade Agreements on IT-based businesses, including issues of ISP liability, E-Commerce, Anti-Circumvention law, and diverse other areas of international law, trade law, and IP. Relate these results back to academic staff in appropriate formats. Design and implement the Free Trade Blog to disseminate research on a continual basis, as well as plan and execute a project wiki. Collaborate with principal researchers on project direction and management.
Project: International Intellectual Property Law
Design and implement new module for e-Learning LL.M. degree in conjunction with the distance learning team and Dr. Waelde. Research resources via University tools and the web for student study, including law articles, case law, and treatises. Evaluate and recommend articles for student use. Create learning objects, including designing course content and organising the learning environment under the direction of Dr. Waelde. Guest tutored on the course. Perform the above tasks while meeting continuous deadlines.
Project: Personality Rights Database Wiki
Install, design, and implement a wiki version of the Personality Rights Database. Independently manage the design, porting of content, and server settings. Optimise settings for usability and spam fighting in order to make the database an attractive resource for users to contribute. Draft, review and evaluate site privacy policy, copyright policy, and disclaimers.
Clean Austin Campaign, Austin, Texas
Legal Policy Analyst, Fall 2005 to May 2006
Evaluated policy positions, coordinated media relations, performed opposition research, and wrote and edited rapid response pieces for a campaign to amend the City of Austin Charter with the Open Government Online Amendment—a law designed to require the City to move more public information online in an effort to apply open source principles to local government. Coordinated community outreach and spoke before a variety of community groups about the amendment. Assisted in successful fund-raising efforts. Advised and collaborated internet outreach via email list, blogs, websites, and with other media tools. Wrote press releases and coordinated press interviews and print media events. Monitored news sources, both online and offline, for developments of interest to the campaign.

Project: CIE Creative Commons Study
Researched various aspects of United Kingdom, European Union, and international copyright law as part of a joint study as part of a successful bid by the Centre and Intrallect that examined the feasibility of open access licenses for copyrighted content held by various publicly-funded organisations in the UK. Produced reports analysing, for example, Technical Protection Measures (TPMs), and examining the term ‘non-commercial’ in the context of international copyright law. As a team member, participated in and help design stakeholder workshops as well as gave presentations explaining Creative Commons licences to potential users.

Granted a temporary bar card under the Texas Student Practice Rule under the supervision of the Student Legal Advisor. Interviewed new clients, including during the weekly “walk-in” advice session. Managed own caseload on matters ranging from landlord/tenant to debt collection violations. Drafted petitions, discovery requests and responses, and demand letters. Settled cases on both defense and plaintiff side. Researched and debriefed attorneys on legal developments of concern to students. Instituted office procedures for the Student Legal Services team to quickly advise students with issues of concern to them.
